Video: “Ordinary World” by Duran Duran (Instrumental Cover)

“Ordinary World” by Duran Duran

I have a long list of songs I’ve wanted to cover for many years. This week, I decided to tackle “Ordinary World” by Duran Duran, and make a quick trip over to the 1990’s in order to contrast my last three covers which were songs from the late 1980’s.

This was a fun cover to work on. I used the section order from the album version of this song as a skeleton, but then added my own twist to it.

The first day I worked on this cover. I programmed all the virtual instruments and built the arrangement in Logic. Some of the details changed after I added real instruments on Day 2, but the bulk of the work accomplished on this first day stuck through to the final version.

On the second day I added guitars, bass, and ukulele. I managed to record the bass track in one take. The rest of the parts needed a few takes as I was trying a few ideas during the takes to see which ideas worked.

I also filmed the recording process for the real instruments and this is the footage seen below.

On the third day I edited the video. This process takes several hours as the footage needs to first be downloaded into my computer. Then there is the arduous process of going through the footage to find all the right spots and cut out all the “bad” bits.

I really hope you enjoy this video! See you next week for a new cover.
