Choosing a Tina Turner Song
There are obviously so many to choose from when it comes to an artist like Tina Turner. “The Best” is probably my favorite song by her from my childhood. Turner’s career spans so many years that she was still making new records when I was a kid. I remember this song being in a Pepsi commercial. It was a pretty cool song back then, and still is now.
When I researched the song to find out who wrote it, I discovered that Turner’s version is a cover and that “The Best” was originally recorded by Bonnie Tyler.
The Process
I began by programming the drums and song form. Guitars used on this cover are my 52 reissue tele, my Flaxwood Hybrid, and my trusty 339 to get the guitar parts done. I also employed my 5 string bass for this song. It came together very quickly. It only took about 80 minutes to get all the parts recorded.
This was a really fun song to work on and while recording it I thought of a song by another artist from the same era whose song would be cool to cover as well at it is kind of similar to this song. So, perhaps in a few weeks that will come a long too. (but I won’t tell you what I have in mind)
Below you can find my version as well as Turner’s and Tyler’s versions:
