Thoughts on the Films

Still Crazy

“Still Crazy” is my  #1 film pick of all time. All the other films on this list are not ranked in order.

I LOVE this film. I have watched it several times and know all the lines in the film. I wish more people knew this film as it certainly deserves to be well known. The story is about a band who reform as middle aged men in order to ride a nostalgia wave. It captures the internal struggles of a band well and explores human interaction through comedy. The soundtrack is awesome too. From time to time I will post “The Flame Still Burns” as a status update on my Facebook profile, which is a nod to this film.

Four Weddings and a Funeral

This used to be my #1 film of all time until I saw “Still Crazy”. I really like this film. Yes, there are cringe worthy moments in this one, but they fit the film. My favorite scenes are:

1) the the opening where we meet Charles and Scarlet as they prepare to go to the first of the four weddings in the film.

2) any scene with Rowan Atkinson

3) the funeral where Matthew (the character) recites that touching poem

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

The entire Lord of the Rings series is amazing! The final movie of the series is my favorite from the trilogy. Epic! I have watched this movie more than the other two. There are so many things that this movie does well. I really wish there was something more to be added to the series. I don’t count The Hobbit since the story is a prequel to the events in LoTR.

Amadeus

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is my favorite composer. While this film is not entirely accurate, it does paint a pretty interesting picture of Mozart and life in that period. The actors are amazing. The story is pretty good. It is a great film.

Gladiator

“What we do in life echoes in eternity.” Probably my favorite film quote. This is such an epic film and it does not get stale no matter how many times I see it. The story grips me every time. It is also a fantastic period piece. I have been fascinated by the Roman era since I was a child. One of my favorite TV series ever was “Rome”.

Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

This is such a fantastic film. It is a perfect mix of crime with a dash of British comedy. It has been a while since I last watched this. I think I’ll go watch it now.

Pan’s Labyrinth

What a beautiful film! Even if it looks dark, there is a halo over it. The film’s language is Spanish, so I have watched it a few times with subtitles since reading subtitles detracts from being able to watch the film. This is one of those films that gets better with time.

Inside Man

Perhaps my favorite crime film of all time. For me, it is up there with The Godfather, The Usual Suspects, and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Even if I already know how it ends, I love rewatching this film. The cast is also amazing. Great film all around.

The Usual Suspects

Until I saw Inside Man this film was my top choice for crime film. It is simply beautiful. Perhaps Kevin Spacey’s best work.

The Martian

I love SciFi as a genre. This movie became an instant “Top 10” movie for me after I saw it the first time. It is compelling. There is hope. Perhaps my favorite thing about the film was how big a role real science played in it and scifi was used to fill in the gaps between real science and movie science.
