Thoughts on the Films

Still Crazy

“Still Crazy” is my  #1 film pick of all time and it is certainly #1 here as well. All the other films on this list are not ranked in order.

I LOVE this film. I have watched it several times and know all the lines in the film. I wish more people knew this film as it certainly deserves to be well known. The story is about a band who reform as middle aged men in order to ride a nostalgia wave. It captures the internal struggles of a band well and explores human interaction through comedy. The soundtrack is awesome too. From time to time I will post “The Flame Still Burns” as a status update on my Facebook profile, which is a nod to this film.

Four Weddings and a Funeral

This used to be my #1 film of all time until I saw “Still Crazy”. I really like this film. Yes, there are cringe worthy moments in this one, but they fit the film. My favorite scenes are:

1) the the opening where we meet Charles and Scarlet as they prepare to go to the first of the four weddings in the film.

2) any scene with Rowan Atkinson

3) the funeral where Matthew (the character) recites that touching poem

Analyze This

The chemistry between [Billy] Crystal and [Robert] De Niro is what makes this film awesome! I can not stress how much I love De Niro’s acting. I will dedicate an entire “Top” list to him.

Meet the Parents

Again, it is all about Robert De Niro here, for me. I don’t like a lot of Ben Stiller’s films, but the whole “Meet the Parents” series is great. I don’t think they could have cast the role of Jack any better, though I always thought it would have been interesting to see Jack Nicholson as Jack.

Dogma

I can not stress how much I love Kevin Smith’s movies. I watch them regularly. “Dogma” is on this list only because I couldn’t decide which Smith film should be here.

To Be or Not To Be

Mel Brooks. Mel Brooks. What would a top comedies list without Mel Brooks be? This one is my favorite from Mel Brooks, though I could have just as easily picked “The Producers” or “Spaceballs”. He has made so many great films, it is hard to pick just one from him.

Oscar

This may be a bit of an odd choice as this film is fairly obscure. I really like this film a lot, obviously, or it wouldn’t be on this list. Stallone plays his character well. This film draws its comedy from a similar place as Oscar Wilde’s play “The Importance of Being Earnest”.

School of Rock

I watch this film at least once a month because my kids love this film so much. I think they watch it every week. There is just so much that this movie does well. It is one of the best family films, IMHO.

Coming to America

The question was, which Eddie Murphy film do I pick since I wanted to include this, “Trading Places” or “Beverly Hills Cop” on here. I went with this one since I like the storyline the best.

Little Miss Sunshine

I’m not entirely sure this is a comedy, but whether it is one or not is another debate. This film delivers fun and there are so many fantastic moments in it. It’s probably in my top 5 in this category.
