OVERVIEW

What happens when you put two icons of the jazz world together and add Christian McBride, Kenny Garrett, and Vinnie Colaiuta? Sheer magic! Even Herbie Hancock makes an appearance on  “In a Silent Way/Its About that Time”. This is a star studded disc that should have all of these musician’s names on the cover!

I’ll save you from the play by play section to find out my opinions about every track on this release – it is amazing! All the solos are fresh and entertaining. The musicianship is of the highest caliber. Then again, this wouldn’t be one of our reviews if we didn’t do the play by play.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Raju, In A Silent Way/It’s About That Time

PLAY BY PLAY

Disc 1:

Track 1 – Raju
The band is on fire and the playing is otherworldly. Stunning!

Track 2 – The Disguise
Sublime.

Track 3 – New Blues, Old Bruise
This has some absolutely amazing moments. But did not grab my attention the same way that the first two tracks did.

Track 4 – Hymn To Andromeda
While I don’t deny that there is genius in this composition, the long and winding exposition made me sleepy. I preferred the grooves and energy towards the end of the track.

Disc 2:

Track 1 – Dr. Jackle
Cool track. Awesome solos!

Track 2 – Senor C.S.
This left me in complete awe.

Track 3 – In A Silent Way/It’s About That Time
Herbie Hancock makes an appearance on this track. Purely amazing!

Track 4 – Someday My Prince Will Come
This is such a lovely rendition of this song.
