OVERVIEW
Fortress is the second studio album from Canadian progressive metal band Protest The Hero. This is definitely a stunning album. These guys are extremely musical. They manage to find the right recipe for musicianship and youthful energy while staying accessible and melodic.
We dig Fortress album and can’t wait to hear what the future holds for these guys! Bring it on!
HIGHLIGHTS :
Bloodmeat, Bone Marrow, Sequoia Throne
PLAY BY PLAY
On Conquest and Captured
Track 1 – Bloodmeat
Very melodic, yet powerful and brutal at times. Beautiful!
Track 2 – The Dissentience
This one is a bit more complex than the previous track but comes with a hefty serving of “there’s more where that came from” attitude.
Track 3 – Bone Marrow
This is a lot more technical and brutal! Wow!
(Untitled)
Track 4 – Sequoia Throne
The pretty intro almost lulls the listener into a very safe place until “BOOM” the band drops the hammer down. Awesome!
Track 5 – Palms Read
Very melodic, but also very busy.
Track 6 – Limb from Limb
This one has a lot going on. Many different moods with the common denominator being heavy. It really grooves in parts too.
Track 7 – Spoils
This one is very anthemic! It sounds big and the chords are big too.
Isosceles
Track 8 – Wretch
Brutal and beautiful. Amazing.
Track 9 – Goddess Bound
Didn’t even notice that this was another song until track 10 came on.
Track 10 – Goddess Gagged
Big ending! Huge guitars again and the vocals are very dramatic.
