REVIEW OVERVIEW

The Noisettes are from the United Kingdom and this is a review of their sophomore effort. We totally missed their debut album but are glad to hear them now. The band’s sound is kind of a mix between indie pop/rock and mellow acoutic pop with jazzy elements.

The songwriting and arrangements are good. I enjoyed everything about this album except the mix. It felt like it was mixed by a schizophrenic because it’s all over the place. I would love to see this band in a live setting. The material is very friendly and I bet the live experience is great.

When the band does uptempo, they do it pretty well. It’s a shame the bulk of the album is so mellow. It’s good mellow and done really well, but with only one uptempo track on the whole album the pacing is slow.

The guitar work and the vocals are very nice.

Overall, if you like something a little different from track to track and like an overall mellow tone then this might be what you’re looking for. On the whole, this album will not do for an adrenalin junkie.

HIGHLIGHTS :

Don’t Upset The Rhythm, 24 Hours, Every Now and Then, Never Forget You, Saturday Night

PLAY BY PLAY REVIEW

Track 1 –  Sometimes
This is a very cute acoustic track with sweet vocals. But I feel it is way too mellow for an album opener.

Track 2 –  Don’t Upset The Rhythm (Go Baby Go)
An almost electronic pop song. It is definitely that in terms of arrangement. Catchy. This would have worked much better as the album opener.

Track 3 –  Wild Young Hearts
Cute song. This has that indie sound to it.

Track 4 –  24 Hours
Great track! Very easy to listen to. This should be a single.

Track 5 – Every Now and Then
Very cool track! I love the feel and the mix on this track is solid.

Track 6 – Beat Of My Heart
Cool uptempo track. I wish there were a few more like this on the album. Even the guitar work on this track is worth praising! Good stuff!

Track 7 –  Atticus
Cool mellow track.

Track 8 – Never Forget You
Awesome! Very retro in a 50’s style with lots of modern flavor. I really like this one a lot.

Track 9 – So Complicated
Not bad, but not memorable.

Track 10 – Saturday Night
Really catchy! Really cool breakdown.

Track 11 – Cheap Kicks
Very nice track! I wish I didn’t have to wait until the end of the album to hear this one. This track is easily better than some of the other material on the album.
