DVD Review

This review was originally written by Jose Bernardo for www.theweeklyriff.com between 2008 and 2010.

These were Jose’s first impressions:

Artist : Michael Jackson
DVD : This Is It  (2010 Epic/Sony Music)
Type : Documentary
Discs : 2

Artist website : http://www.michaeljackson.com

OVERVIEW

Overall, this should finally give people not in the music industry an insight to just how hard people in this business work to get things done. While the artist in question is Michael Jackson, this DVD set is about producing a Michael Jackson show and not about the man. It is inspiring and honest. Not only do I recommend this DVD set for MJ fans, but all people.

HIGHLIGHTS :

Smooth Criminal and all the behind the scenes stuff

MAIN FEATURE :

The main feature clocks in at about 2 hours and takes the viewer on a journey of a Michael Jackson show as it is being rehearsed. The vision of just how grand this production was supposed to be is clear as the viewer is shown just what Jackson had in mind for his O2 performances in London. Unfortunately, Jackson died before is vision could be fully realized.

All the instantly recognizable hits are run through from Jackson’s days in the Jackson 5 through material from his History album.

Not once did I feel like the main feature was running long. The editors did a great job of putting together something that kept me engaged the whole time.

EXTRA FEATURES :

The two disc set is packed with extra features that are totally worth the extra price of the set. All the interviews and behind the scenes material is really well put together. I especially enjoyed watching the documentary about the dance rehearsals.
