OVERVIEW

Porcupine Tree’s tenth studio album, The Incident, is a daring double disc set that takes their music to a whole new level. The title track by itself is 55 minutes long and takes up the whole first disc on its own. The second disc contains four shorter songs.

In the interest of keeping with the intended artistic vision, I will not be doing a play by play of the different movements within the title track. I will review it as one continuous piece.

The music is what one would expect if they’ve been long time Porcupine Tree fans. Everything from crushingly heavy to mellow, light, and ambient, is contained within. There are so many emotional moments and so many excellent compositional moments. Complex, yet simple. Bravo, this is a great album.

PLAY BY PLAY

CD1:
Track 1 – The Incident
There are some amazingly powerful moments in this piece. The one thing that I love about Porcupine tree is that a powerful moment can either be mellow and emotional or strong and heavy, and everything in between.

There were a few moments when I didn’t really care for what was going on, but those moments were very brief. In those moments, I felt the writing was a bit lazy.

CD2:
Track 1 – Flicker
Mellow. Cool track. I like this laid back groove a lot. The guitar solo is good.

Track 2 – Bonnie the Cat
Love the groove.

Track 3 – Black Dahlia
Very pretty and mellow.

Track 4 – Remember Me Lover
Cool track.
