OVERVIEW

This is the tenth studio album of Lacrimosa. They are a gothic rock/metal duo made up of composers Tilo Wolff and Anne Nurmi. The predominant language is German. The music is dark with very strong symphonic elements. Though I do not understand any German, I can feel the emotions that are being conveyed very clearly.

This was a very interesting album to listen. This is definitely not something that everyone would love, but we thought it was very well put together. We found we didn’t have to understand a word of German to enjoy the music. Give it a try if you’re into the whole goth thing and haven’t heard of Lacrimosa yet. (Though if you’re in to goth you probably already have this album.)

HIGHLIGHTS:

Mandira Nabula (for accordion), Feuer, Die Taube (intro)

PLAY BY PLAY

Track 1 – Die Sehnsucht in mir (The longning in me)
Very beautiful. Haunting in places.

Track 2 – Mandira Nabula
This one is more rock. Pretty cool track with nice use of syncopation in places. The accordion in this song makes me grin. It is so unexpected in this kind of music. It’s almost comical in a Weird Al kind of way, and I don’t mean that as an insult at all. Very creative!

Track 3 – A.u.S. (Everything in Pain)
Very pretty and mellow. Almost tranquil in a kind of freaky way.

Track 4 – Feuer (Fire)
I liked this track! I can’t really explain why, but I found myself drawn to this track.

Track 5 – A prayer for your heart
This felt like a gothic metal track. It was really mellow though. More of a gothic metal ballad.

Track 6 – I lost my star in Krasnodar
Very cool feel to this track. More uptempo.

Track 7 – Die Taube (The Dove)
Really pretty piano and strings in the intro! Not crazy about the vocals on this track.

Track 8 – Call me with the voice of love
Wow! Something that actually sounds somewhat happy.

Track 9 – Der tote Winkel (The blind spot)
This one sounded majestic and big.

Track 10 – Koma (Coma)
Really pretty motifs in this one. Great use of wind instruments
