OVERVIEW

This is Diana. Krall’s latest effort. It is great! Though she has not penned a single track on this disc, she has definitely recorded all of these songs with such authority that one might almost think that she is the original recording artist. I will say it here so I don’t repeat myself in the play by play, the words “smooth” and “velvety” could be applied to every song on this album.

Over all, the album has a laid back feel to it. This makes it a great candidate for relaxing and unwinding or awesome mood music at dinner. Diana Krall’s voice and piano skills are an always dependable facet that can not be ignored as a formidable force in enticing a listener to come in and enjoy these songs.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Este Seu Olhar, How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, Boy From Ipanema

PLAY BY PLAY

Track 1 – Where Or When
Smooth and velvety.  Very cool opening track.

Track 2 – Too Marvelous For Words
This is a great track for relaxing and unwinding.

Track 3 –  I’ve Grown Accustomed To His Face
This track made me forget I was working and almost made me too relaxed!

Track 4 – The Boy From Ipanema
Krall’s rendition of this classic is great. I wish more female artists would do it like this.

Track 5 – Walk On By
This was originally recorded in 1963 by Dionne Warwick. This is definitely a great version of this song.

Track 6 – You’re My Thrill
Interesting rendition of an old hit from 1933. Very smooth.

Track 7 – Este Seu Olhar
I did not know Ms. Krall sings in Portuguese! This was quite the treat.

Track 8 – So Nice
Very nice.

Track 9 – Quiet Nights
Here’s the title track. It’s also the third Jobim song Krall has covered on this CD. Perhaps, her next album should be an all out tribute to Jobim.

Track 10 – Guess I’ll Hang My Tears Out to Dry
Sublime.

Track 11 – How Can You Mend a Broken Heart
This is perhaps one of the best known Bee Gees songs there is, and this rendition is just wonderful.

Track 12 – Every time We Say Goodbye
Very nice rendition.
